Earlier this year, while flipping through my favorite magazine, Whole Living, this question leapt off the page. Immediately, I began thinking about it and how in my own life I get my creative juices flowing.
A couple of days later, while feeling very inspired, I sat down and wrote the above statement and emailed it off to the magazine never imagining that I would be chosen as the grand prize winner.
Actually, I let it go completely from my mind until just a couple of weeks ago, when I excitedly received the May issue that arrived on a particularly busy Saturday. It wasn’t until later in that day, when I opened the magazine to start casually reading it that I saw my entry had been chosen as this month’s winner.
- What gets your creative juices flowing?
Such good advice Melanie!
Personally I’ve found that doing good work gets my creativity flowing. If I’m looking to be inspired about writing, for example, I sit down and free write for a bit. If I’m in the mood to paint, I’ll get out the paints and just start painting. No constraints and being able to actually do the work always leaves me so inspired.
That’s one of my favorite magazines too! It arrived while I was on vacation and I haven’t even opened it. Now I am!
I find that bubble baths relax me and gets my creativity going! Or just pulling out my paints and just paint whatever–doodles, etc.
Getting out of bed on the other side sounds so small, but can make such a big impact towards shaking up your day. I’m so on autopilot for the first couple hours of the day that doing something as small as physically rising differently would surely make an impact. Great advice! :>
My mojo flows much more freely if I don’t have paperwork hanging over my head. I just stress about it and close off the creative side, making myself miserable. So, as boring as it sounds, if I get that done, then I can move the creative side to front and center. :>
Followed @thienkim’s tweet to you and am glad I did! :>
That’s so cool. Talk about taking action and letting it unfold. Way to be spontaneous and connected with yourself and your creativity. Yay!
I do the new route thing – and do think exploring gets my mind working in creative ways. An afternoon spent outdoors enjoying Nature does it. And sometimes antiquing, too (although I’m not sure why…)
Congrats, Melanie! Definitely worthy of being published. As Marianne said above, it’s about spontaneity. I will try the exotic food suggestion. As I am an early riser, I will not try getting up on the other side of the bed as it would likely disturb my wife, which would lead to a disturbed (and uncreative) day for me.
